Belur and Haleebeedu

These 12th century temples with great history and most beautiful carvings all around the temples. Belur was the early capital of the Hoysala Empire. The main attraction in Belur is the Chennakeshava temple complex which contains the Chennakesava Temple (dedicated to Chennakeshava, meaning handsome Vishnu) as the centre piece, surrounded by the Kappe Chennigraya temple built by Shantaladevi, queen of king Vishnuvardhana. It is said that Shantaladevi herself danced in front of the main shrine during its installation and her dance inspired the poses of the figurines on the temple walls.

Pandavara Gudda

This ancient temple is said to be over 600 years old. It is atop a hill and overlooks the entire valley. Stand there and get mesmerized by the glorious views of the hills in the Western Ghats and the valley and wonder how someone thought of building a temple here. God Byreshwara seems to stand guard over the entire valley. There is a nice motorable road, though steep, leading to the temple. One can also climb up to the temple through steps that have been built.

Manjarabad Fort

Manjarabad fort is one of the main tourist attraction of sakleshpur. The fort is reputed to have been constructed by Tippu Sultan, the ruler of Mysore as a strategic defensive location as it commands the approach to the plateau beyond Sakleshpur from the coast. The climb to the top is pretty ok with 500 odd steps. The fort provides great views of the valley from the top.

Magajahalli Waterfalls is also called as Abbi Falls. If you listen carefully as you drive past, you will hear the gurgling sound of a waterfall. If you climb down into the underbush, you will a very nice waterfall cascading for about 20 feet in its glory. If you happen to be there immediately after the monsoon season, the rush of water will be at its peak. Watch out for the slippery stones, but this could be a nice picnic spot if you want to take a short break.

The Shettihalli church was constructed in 1860 by French missionaries. This Gothic styled church was built on the scenic banks of Hemavathi river in Hassan and served as a religious worship center for the wealthy British estate owners.
